Citizens Advisory Committee

Committee Details

The focus of the Citizens Advisory Committee is to administer the citizen participation requirements of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended. It also prepares and recommends grant applications for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to the Mayor and Village Board, monitors the progress of all funded programs, and makes recommendations to the Mayor and Village Board regarding the implementation of CDBG funded programs.

Housing and Community Development Act

The Housing and Community Development Act is not a single law, but a series of federal acts designed to improve housing and community development in the United States, with the most significant being the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974. The 1974 Act created the flexible Community Development Block Grant program, which merged several previous grant programs, and gave local governments greater autonomy in funding community projects aimed at improving housing, infrastructure, and services for low- and moderate-income individuals. Other acts have amended and extended these programs, introducing initiatives for low-income homeownership, public housing revitalization, and reverse mortgages.
