Building a Better Community

The Community Development Department is responsible for overseeing a variety of programs and initiatives to advance the health and viability of the Village and its neighborhoods. A variety of Federal and State grant programs are utilized to achieve this. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) is the primary program utilized. 

The Community Development Department work with residents to help them learn about assistance programs that are available to them. The Department can aid you in the preparation and submission of applications for specific programs. Not only does the Department work to assist individuals in gaining access to programs, they also monitor the success of the programs and the short-term and lasting effects that the programs have on the Village of Rantoul.

Programs

  • Housing Rehabilitation - CDBG funds are utilized to rehabilitate homes of income qualified low-moderate income persons in the community. Learn more about Housing Rehabilitation opportunities.
  • Building Demolition - CDBG Funds are utilized to remove blighted structures in the community.
  • Social Services - CDBG Funds are provided to various social service agencies to offer programs and services to residents. Various services such as home care for senior citizens; dental care for Head-Start students; drug and alcohol abuse counseling; and GED classes have been provided previously.
  • Public Infrastructure Improvements - CDBG funds are utilized to fund various infrastructure improvements in low-moderate income neighborhoods of the community.

CDBG 2023 Annual Action Plan
The Village of Rantoul, being an entitlement community with the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development must submit an Annual Action Plan in order to apply for Community Development Block Grant funding. The 2023 Annual Action Plan represents the 4th Annual Action Plan of the 2020-2024 Consolidated Plan.

CDBG 2022 Annual Action Plan
The Village of Rantoul, being an entitlement community with the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development must submit an Annual Action Plan in order to apply for Community Development Block Grant funding. The 2022 Annual Action Plan represents the 3rd Annual Action Plan of the 2020-2024 Consolidated Plan.
